Feel confident about your diamonds by using a combination of screeners and testers from Stuller, differentiating between natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, and diamond simulants. Not only can these devices help you be completely transparent with your customers, but they can also assist you in discovering the growth origin of your in-stock diamonds. It is your reputation on the line, so feel confident in what you are selling with our complete line of screeners and testers.
What Is Diamond Screening?
Screening is the process by which natural diamonds are separated from lab-grown diamonds. Since it’s impossible to identify a diamond’s growth origin by sight alone, screening equipment is the surest way to determine whether a diamond is natural or lab-grown. Furthermore, screening is distinctly different from detection (or testing), which involves positive identification of a diamond, lab-grown diamond, or simulant.

Testing is the process by which diamonds are definitively separated from lab-grown Moissanite and other simulants. Testing instruments typically separate stones based on their thermal and electrical conductivity, but they have limits. Testers are not a one-size-fits-all approach. It's always a good idea to know what the limitations of your tester may be and know when you should bring in another device (or send the stones off to a lab with more advanced equipment).

Stuller’s Diamond Screening
Protects Your Business
We are at the forefront of diamond screening with robust practices that use the most advanced technology available.
Learn MoreImportant Update on Lab-Grown Diamond Testing and Screening
Stuller was an early adopter and promoter of lab-grown diamonds entering the jewelry space. We support rigorous testing and screening procedures as well as strict industry standards. It has recently come to the attention of the Stuller Gemological Lab™ that manufacturing methods for lab-grown diamonds have changed in a way that impacts testing and screening.
A high percentage of HPHT colorless lab-grown diamonds in the United States market are containing a relatively higher level of Boron. This higher concentration of Boron results in a tendency for testers and screeners using UV transparency or UV reflectance technologies to mistakenly identify diamonds as Moissanite and even natural diamonds. Our tests show that these results occur more commonly in fancy-shaped lab-grown diamonds.
To accommodate for these manufacturing adjustments, we encourage jewelers to have access to at least one tester and two screeners of differing technologies to reduce the possibility of misidentification.
You can trust that any lab-grown diamond and jewelry set with lab-grown diamonds provided by Stuller is thoroughly tested and screened to the highest industry standard.
